The good news: we survived.
The bad news: so did they.
The year is 2039. It has been 25 years since the Kellis-Amberlee virus began reanimating the dead. Georgia Mason is a young 20-something Newsie with a Class A-15 bloggers license and a passion for the truth.
Orphaned as a baby by the zombie outbreak, Georgia was adopted by Stacy and Michael Mason, prolific bloggers and zombie survivalists themselves, and raised in the sticks, away from the gated security complexes of the post-zombie world: what better publicity stunt to guarantee ratings?
Brought up by the emotionally distant (unless there was a photographer around) Masons , Georgia and her adoptive brother Shaun developed an intensely close relationship, relying on each other for the support and comfort denied them by their parents.
At age 5 Georgia was diagnosed with Acquired Kellis-Amberlee Optic Neuropathic Reservoir Condition, more commonly known as Retinal Kellis-Amberlee or Retinal KA - a condition where the live virus replicates only in the ocular fluid, causing permanent pupil dilation and intense sensitivity to light. As a result Georgia always wears large dark glasses or her bright blue light blocking contact lenses which sometimes she wears just to freak people out. Other symptoms include the inability to cry and a lack of needing to blink. On the plus side her low light vision is much better than average.
Georgia always wanted to be a journalist and at 16 she decided that she wanted to follow her parents into the blogging profession which grew up around the original zombie outbreak and become a Newsie, a type of blogger who report fact as untainted by opinion as possible. Together with Shaun, an Irwin - pokes dead things with sticks to see what will happen - and their friend Buffy, a Fictional, she runs a beta blogging site which, in her own words ‘reports the news, makes the news, and gives you a way to escape when the news becomes too much to handle.’
Georgia is logical, level headed and meticulous. Unlike many of her peers she isn’t afraid to venture outside the confines of the government secured areas, although she doesn’t thrive on danger the way her brother does. Her driving force is a desire to get to the truth, but unlike many people in her profession she takes a great deal of care to make sure that she does this in as ethical a way as possible. She stakes her reputation on her ethics and would never sacrifice her journalistic or moral integrity for the sake of the ratings.
Georgia’s biggest goal in life is to one day run her own site as an Alpha and make it in to the top 3 newsfeeds. Her biggest fear is that one day she will have to add Shaun’s name to the bloggers memorial site, The Wall.
She comes to the bar from the beginning of the first book in the Newsflesh trilogy, Feed, just as she is about to head out on the campaign trail as part of presidential candidate Senator Peter Ryman’s press corps.
Physical: Georgia is of average height and weighs 135lbs. Her hair is naturally a dark brown but the decontamination chemicals she is required to use when showering have a nasty habit of bleaching it, although she regularly dyes her hair back to brown. She keeps her hair cropped short so that zombies can't grab her by it. Her eyes - should someone get to see them in their natural state - look black with just the thinnest ring of their natural brown visible around the edge of the pupil. Her hands are covered in tiny pinprick wounds and scars thanks to the viral testing units that are the basis of the zombie security protocols. On her left wrist is a blue and red ID tattoo of her blogging license.
Georgia Mason is from the Newsflesh trilogy, and is the property of Mira Grant. They appear here solely for the purpose of role-playing in
